About the artists:
Joseph Hagedorn, a founding member of the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet, performed with the group from 1986 until 2023, touring to some 30 states, Mexico, China, Germany, Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Northern Macedonia and recording six CDs. With the Shank-Hagedorn violin-guitar duo, he has recorded two CDs on the innova and Centaur labels and performed concerts in Colorado, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Oregon, California, Mexico and Serbia. Hagedorn earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Cornell College and a Master of Music degree from the University of Minnesota, studying with Richard Stratton, Christopher Carrington, Nelson Amos, and Jeffrey Van. Hagedorn has served on the music faculty of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls since 1988, and his solo and concerto appearances have taken him to more than 25 American cities and Canada. He has been heard on the nationally broadcast radio program Saint Paul Sunday with the both Minneapolis Guitar Quartet and the Shank-Hagedorn Duo. Since 2024, Hagedorn has performed frequently in duo concerts with soprano Momoko Tanno, and flutist Linda Chatterton. In 1990, Hagedorn was the first prize winner at the Guitar Foundation of America International solo competition.
Momoko Tanno, singer/actor/educator, has been actively performing in the Twin Cities, nationally, and abroad. Recent performances include soprano soloist with Heinrich Schütz Chor and Mendelssohn Chor in Tokyo, Messiah with Dakota Valley Symphony, and Cio-cio-san in Madama Butterfly with Tacoma Opera. Credits: Susanna in Figaro, Donna Anna in Don Juan Giovanni, Frasquita in Carmen in the Tony Award-Winning Theater de la Jeune Lune, American Repertory Theater, and Berkeley Repertory Theater, M. Butterfly at the Guthrie, Camelot at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. Momoko has taught voice for over 25 years and has been a faculty member at UWRF, SPCPA, and K&S Conservatory for Music. Momoko is a frequent recitalist of art songs and Japanese songs with Duo Mythos, Duo Umemomo, and with guitarist Joseph Hagedorn.
